SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH ROCHESTER GAS & ELECTRIC CORPORATION (RG&E) ON R.E. GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION On March 27, 2002, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with the representatives of Rochester Gas & Electric Corporation (RG&E). The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the RG&Es plans for submitting its license renewal application for Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. The RG&E is planning to submit a license renewal application for Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in July 2002. Attachment 1 is the meeting agenda.

During this meeting, the RG&E made a presentation to the NRC staff on topics including scoping and screening methodology, application format and P&IDs, time-limited aging analyses, treatment of emerging license renewal issues, and severe accident management alternatives (SAMA). Attachment 2 is the presentation by RG&E, and attachment 3 is the list of meeting attendees.

During the presentation, the RG&E representatives demonstrated navigation through the application, specifically, from section 2 to section 3, or linkage between components and aging management programs.

The staff also updated the RG&E representatives on the status of emerging license renewal issues, e.g., station blackout (SBO), concrete aging, and aging management requirements for fire protection piping. Additionally, the NRC staffs lessons learned on SAMA through review of previous license renewal applications were communicated to the RG&E representatives.
