April 19, 2002 LICENSEE: EXELON NUCLEAR FACILITY: BRAIDWOOD STATION

SUMMARY

OF THE APRIL 10, 2002, MEETING WITH BRAIDWOOD STATION TO DISCUSS PERFORMANCE On April 10, 2002, a public meeting was held at the Services and Training Center in Wilmington, Illinois, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Braidwood Station management and staff. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NRCs assessment of the Braidwood Stations performance for the period of April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. In addition, Mr. J. von Suskil, the Site Vice-President, discussed the licensee continuing improvement efforts, own assessment of performance; and focus areas for the calendar year 2002.

During the NRC presentation, an overall assessment of Braidwood Stations performance was provided. As explained in the Annual Assessment letter from NRC to Mr. John L. Skolds, dated March 4, 2002, (reference ADAMS accession number ML020670397), the Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 operated in a manner that preserved public health and safety and fully met all cornerstone objectives. The slides presented that day by the NRC are available in ADAMS (accession number ML021070437).

Mr. J. von Suskil, the Site Vice-President, discussed performance issues and the actions for improvement as well as the licensees focus areas. Performance issues discussed were Auxiliary Feedwater System reliability, Braidwood lake concerns, security, and weakness identified in Problem Identification Resolution inspection which was performed in February 2002. Focus areas discussed were industrial safety and human performance. The licensee did not provide handouts with their presentation.

Before adjourning the meeting, the NRC provided the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions. There were no members of the public present on the meeting.
