NRC Bulletin 2001-01 requested Prairie Island specific information regarding the potential for cracking of its reactor pressure vessel head penetration (VHP) nozzles, inspections performed and planned, and details of previously identified cracking. In addition, the Bulletin requested the inspection results following the next refueling outage: "... a description of the extent of VHP nozzle leakage and cracking detected at your plant, including the number, location, size, and nature of each crack detected..."
Prairie Island Unit 2 was shutdown for refueling in February 2002 and the vessel head was inspected per the commitment made in the original response to Bulletin 2001-01.
Prior to the inspection, the inspector reviewed EPRI document 1006296, "Visual Examination for Leakage of PWR Reactor Head Penetrations." There were no indications of leakage or wastage noted by the inspector.
In this letter we have made no new Nuclear Regulatory Commission commitments.
