February 15, 2002 Mr. Paul Gage, Lead Examiner U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 611 Ryan Plaza Drive, Suite 400 Arlington, TX 76011-8064

Subject:

Initial License Written Examination Results for ANO, Unit 2 (CE)

(NRC Inspection Report 50-368/2002-301)

Dear Mr. Gage:

The examination analysis for the written examination that was administered on February 8, 2002 has been completed. The following summary provides the information as required by ES-403 for post examination activities.

Examination Grading -

All exams were manually reviewed, after machine grading, to check for errors. The Scantron made errors on 4 SROU exams, where a correct answer was marked wrong due to inadequate erasure. The corrections were identified on the individuals answer sheets and are reflected in the final score.

There were no exam failures and no exams that fell into the 80 + 2% criteria. All exam scores were reviewed in detail to ensure proper scoring.

Exam/Question Analysis -

Questions which were missed by half or more of the class (at least three of the six RO candidates or at least five of the ten SRO candidates) were reviewed for question errors and for required program changes. These questions are listed in Attachment 1 with their resolution.

Attachment 2 lists the clarification questions asked by the License candidates and the proctors responses.

Candidate Review of Exam -

All candidates have reviewed their exams and the questions missed have been discussed.

There are no requested appeals by the candidates on the grading of the written exam.

Please call me at 479/858-6932 or Tom Mayfield at 479/858-6886 if you have any questions.

Sincerely, Daniel R. Sealock Facility Representative Arkansas Nuclear One Supervisor, Simulator Support CC (w/o attachments): Sherrie Cotton Jay Miller Tom Mayfield James Hatman Tim Mitchell Jody Sigle Licensing
