SUMMARY

OF MARCH 21, 2002, MEETING WITH CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, INC. TO DISCUSS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF POST-ACCIDENT MONITORING SYSTEM INSTRUMENTATION On March 21, 2002, a public meeting was held between Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Inc.

(CCNPPI) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the licensees proposed implementation of a digital upgrade to the post-accident monitoring system (PAMS) for Calvert Cliffs, Unit Nos. 1 and 2. Enclosure 1 is the list of attendees and Enclosure 2 contains the slides from the meeting.

CCNPPI provided an overview of the upgrade project including the licensing approach.

CCNPPI has evaluated the modification under 10 CFR 50.59 and concluded that, because the components that will be changed are for indication only and have no active function, the change does not require prior NRC review and approval. CCNPPI will be using the Westinghouse Common Qualified Platform as described in Topical Report (TR) CENPD-396-P, Rev. 01, "Common Qualified Platform" Appendix 1 which describes the Post Accident Monitoring System. The topical report is still under review by the staff. Westinghouse anticipates that the staffs review of its topical report will be completed by October 2002. CCNPPI plans to implement the PAMS modification in Unit 2 during the spring 2003 refueling outage and in Unit 1 during the spring 2004 outage.
