Dear Mr. Janati:

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and PPL Susquehanna, LLC in which the NRC staff will discuss with PPL our annual assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.

The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center, 634 Salem Boulevard in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and is open to the public for observation. At the meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss with PPL our assessment of the safety performance of Susquehanna and their response to our assessment. The NRC staff will be available following the meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Susquehanna and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process.

Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. We described our assessment results in a letter to PPL Susquehanna, LLC on March 1, 2002; a copy of that letter is attached.

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and PPL Susquehanna, LLC in which the NRC staff will discuss with PPL our annual assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station.

The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center, 634 Salem Boulevard in Berwick, Pennsylvania, and is open to the public for observation. At the meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss with PPL our assessment of the safety performance of Susquehanna and their response to our assessment. The NRC staff will be available following the meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Susquehanna and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process.

Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. We described our assessment results in a letter to PPL Susquehanna, LLC on March 1, 2002; a copy of that letter is attached.
