R.E. GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT - ANNUAL ASSESSMENT OF SAFETY PERFORMANCE
Dear Ms. Wideman:
I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) in which we will discuss our annual assessment of the safety performance of the R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant (Ginna).
The meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the Ontario Golf Club, 2101 Country Club Lane, Ontario, New York, and is open to the public for observation. The NRC staff will be available following the meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Ginna and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.
The NRC recently completed its annual performance assessment of the safety performance of Ginna in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process. Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. We documented our assessment results in a letter to RG&E on March 1, 2002; a copy of that letter is attached.
You may obtain additional information about the Reactor Oversight Process, the information we used in our annual assessment, and the specific safety performance of Ginna using the NRC Web site. This information may be accessed at http://www.nrc.gov/NRR/OVERSIGHT/ASSESS.index.html.
