Dear Mr. Gutteridge:
The General Electric Company (GE) operates the Nuclear Test Reactor (NTR) at the Vallecitos Nuclear Center in Sunol, California under the provisions of License No. R-33 issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The NTR operates utilizing fully enriched U-Al alloy fuel at a maximum power of 100 kW.
In order to comply with 10CFR50.64, GE requests that DOE provide funding during FY2002 to permit the conversion of the NTR from HEU fuel to LEU fuel. If funding is not available in FY2002, GE would appreciate notification when funding is made available.
