Dear Mr. Barrington:

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation in which the NRC staff will discuss with North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation our annual assessment of the safety performance of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Station.

The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2002, at the Seabrook Community Center, 311 Lafayette Road, Seabrook NH, 03874, and is open to the public for observation. At the meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss with North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation our assessment of their safety performance of Seabrook and their response to our assessment. The NRC staff will be available following the meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Seabrook and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Station in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process. Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from April 1, 2001 through December 31, 2001. We described our assessment results in a letter to the North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation on March 4, 2002; a copy of that letter is attached.
