Harold W. Keiser PSEG Nuclear LLC President & Chief Nuclear Officer PO. Box 236, Hancocks Bridge, NJ 08038 856.339.1100 Nuclear LLC February 12, 2002 Mr. Norm Cohen 321 Barr Avenue Linwood, NJ 08221
Dear Mr. Cohen:
In your letter dated February 6, you indicate your willingness to "allay public concerns" about the security of our nuclear units.
Since September 11, we have made an extended effort to share with the public what we can regarding our security response for that very reason, and based on feedback from local officials, the media and our employees, we feel the public is well informed.
Over the last few months, we have hosted numerous media visits, including TV, radio and print to highlight our security efforts. Our goal is to let the public see first hand the depth of our response thereby maintaining confidence in our operation. These media outlets include:
NJN (most recently, February 5)
ABC Philadelphia ABC Harrisburg CBS Philadelphia CBS New York NBC Philadelphia Newark Star Ledger Courier Post Today's Sunbeam KYW News Radio 1060 In addition, we communicate regularly with elected officials, and have hosted several tours. By staying in touch with the officials, we can help them understand our security response so they can answer the questions of their constituents.
In November, we also sent letters about our nuclear security to all the residents in the 10 mile radius of our site and to all our employees' families. We did receive some questions from local residents about our security and attempted to answer the question when the information was not considered "safeguard" material.
Finally, as part of our security response, we maintain communication with federal, state and local emergency management agencies, and we adjust our security planning as needed. While we cannot always answer questions about the specifics of our security response and how it changes, we have worked hard to ensure the public is aware of everything we were doing to continue to keep their health and safety our top priority.
Sincerely, X
U\\
