REQUEST FOR HEARING OF WE THE PEOPLE, INC AND THE BLUE RIDGE ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE LEAGUE WITH RESPECT TO USE OF TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF TRITIUM Attached are copies of petitions to intervene filed respectively by We the People, Inc. of Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL). The petitions were filed on January 16, 2002. The Office of the Secretary received a faxed copy from We the People, Inc. and an e-mailed copy from BREDL. Both organizations indicated that the original signature copies were on their way by regular mail to the NRC. The fax and e-mail versions of the petitions have not been entered in ADAMS at this time. The original signature copies will be entered in ADAMS upon their arrival.

The copies submitted, however, have been docketed as of January 22, 2002.

The petitions address two proposed no significant hazards consideration determination notices published by the NRC staff in the Federal Register. The notices were published at 66 Fed. Reg. 65000 and 65005 (December 17, 2001). The notices detail the staffs findings with respect to the suitability of Tennessee Valley Authoritys (TVA) Sequoyah Units 1 and 2 (Docket Numbers 50-327 & 50-328) and TVAs Watts Bar Unit 1 (Docket Number 50-390) for use in the production of tritium.

The requests for hearing are being referred to you for appropriate action in accordance with 10 C.F.R. §2.772(j).
