Dear Chairman Meserve,
Recognizing the location of the Indian Point power plant in the Lower Hudson Valley and the facility's proximity to New York City, we are requesting a classified briefing on the security measures which have been put into effect to protect this facility from a potential terrorist attack.
More than 20 million people reside within 50 miles of Indian Point, making this region one of the most densely populated areas in the nation.
While we are aware that additional precautions have been taken since September 11 I to protect Indian Point, we would like to be briefed on the specific measures implemented by Entergy and all of the state and federal agencies who are responsible for maintaining security at the plant.
In order to be assured that all appropriate security measures are in place, this briefing must be scheduled as soon as possible. Please contact Craig Wilson of Congresswoman Lowey's office at 914-428-1707 to coordinate the arrangements. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we all work to ensure the health and safety of the people of New York and the surrounding communities.
