St. Lucie Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-335 and 50-389 aLRespanse This letter provides the Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) initial response to Generic Letter (GL) 96-06, Assurance ofEquipment Operability and Containment Integrity During Design-Basis Accident Conditions, for St. Lucie Units 1 and 2, The GL requested an initial written response within thirty days of September 30, 1996, indicating FPL's intentions to implement the actions requested in the GL and a schedule for completion.
Within 120 days of September 30, 1996, licensees are requested to submit a written summary report stating actions taken in response to the GL, conclusions that were reached relative to susceptibility for waterhammer and two-phase flow in the containment air cooler cooling water system and overpressurization of piping that penetrates containment, the basis for continued operability of affected systems and components as applicable, and corrective actions implemented or that are planned to be implemented. Ifsystems are found to be susceptible to the conditions that are discussed in the generic letter, identify the systems affected and describe the specific circumstances involved.
FPL plans to implement the actions requested and submit a summary report in accordance with the schedule in the GL. The requested information willbe submitted by January 28,1997.
This response is provided pursuant to the requirements of Section 182a of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and 10 CFR 50.54(f).
