The purpose of this letter is to advise you of Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) figure consolidation projects underway at the Florida Power &LightCompany'FPL) nuclear sites.
The effort required to reproduce and renumber engineering drawings strictly for the purpose of converting them into UFSAR figures is an administrative burden on FPL. To reduce this burden, both Turkey Point and St. Lucie intend to discontinue the practice of updating those figures in their respective UFSARs that can be replaced by referring to an engineering drawing.
The figure will be replaced with a note, on the figure page, that directs the reader to a set of referenced drawings.
The set of referenced engineering drawings willbe submitted to NRC for docketing along with the periodic amendments of the UFSARs required by 10'CFR 50.71(e).
The UFSAR figure consolidation effort is consistent with revised UFSAR figure control practices being implemented by other licensees in that the referenced drawings willbe:
incorporated in the UFSARs by reference,
~
updated on the same frequency as the UFSAR updates,
~
placed on the docket in a similar fashion as the UFSAR amendments, and
~
comparable in detail to the figures currently in the UFSARs.
The UFSAR for St, Lucie Unit 2, scheduled for submittal in early July of this year, willbe the first to use the new figure format.
Very truly yours, W. H. Bohlke Vice President, Engineering and Licensing WHB/MAS cc:
