Technical Specification 3.7.1. 6 Action a.
requires the submission of a special report to the NRC if a standby i
feedwater pump is inoperable for greater than 30 days.
Technical Specification 3.7.1.6 Action d.
requires the report to describe the cause of the inoperability, the actions taken and the schedule for restoration.
BACKGROUND:
furkey Point Nuclear has two non-safety grade standby feedwater pumps installed to supply feedwate.- to either the Unit 3 or Unit 4 steam generators, if needed.
CAUSE AND ACTIONS TAKEN:
As part of the implementation of Amennment 164/158 to the Technical Specifications, the prime mover for the B standby feedwater pump is l
being changed from an electric motor to a dedicated diesel driver.
This modification was discussed in our letter (L-93-200) to you, dated September 3, 1993, and approved by the issuance of Amendment 164/158 via your letter dated May 20, 1994.
SCHEDULE FOR RESTORATION:
The B standby feedwater pump will be shipped to the ven,ior for installation of the dedicated diesel driver.
As shown on the schedule included with this special report, the B standby feedwater pump is expected to be removed from service on May 17,
- 1995, shipped to the vendor on May 22/23, 1995, returned and installed by June 20, 1995, with post-modification testing complete, and the pump restored to available status, by July 10, 1995.
A letter will be submitted confirming that the pump has been returned to service.
