P. O. BOX V Q FLORIDAPOWER & LIGHT COMPANY August 14, 1978 L-78-269 Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Director, Region II Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory COIITIIission 101 Marietta Street, Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Re:

RII:JPO 50-389 Florida Power 8 Light Company has reviewed IE Bulletin 78-07 concerning the protection afforded by air-line respirators and supplied-air hoods.

The respiratory protection program for St. Lucie Unit No.

2 does not intend to utilize supplied-air respirators in the demand mode.

Should supplied-air hoods be used, a protection factor will be utilized based on the manufacturer's recomended maximum air flow rate

(>

6 cfm) as measured by calibrated air-line pressure gauge or flow measuring equipment.

A description of the respiratory protection program will be presented in the FSAR.

Based on the information provided above, no further action is planned in response to IE Bulletin 78-07.

Very

yours, Robert E. Uhrig Vice President REU:MV:pit cc:
