Heavy Metal Monitoring at St.Lucie Unit No.
1 Docket Number'0-335's per our discussion with your staff on April 17,
- 1975, our proposed heavy metals monitoring programs for St. Lucie Unit No.
1 is presented below.
In order to document the concentrations of heavy metals in the condenser cooling water leaving the condenser during the initial weeks of operation of the St. Lucie Unit No.
1 condenser, FPL proposes the following program:
Upon initial filling of the salt water side of the condenser, a sample of the condenser cooling water entering and leaving the condenser will be taken daily for the first two weeks of operation and held. If the first monthly sample, when analyzed for heavy metals, shows iron concentrations higher than those stated in the 'Unit No.
2 FES, then samples held will be analyzed for iron, copper and zinc.
This program will be discontinued when valves stablize or reach concentrations stated in the Unit No.
2
- FES, and monthly samples will be taken thereafter.
If you have any questions concerning this item, please contact me.
Very truly yours, Robert E. Uhrig Vice President REU:nch cc:
