SUBJECT:

James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-333 Comments on the Reactor Vessel Intearity Database (RVID)

REFERENCE:

NRC Letter to J. Knubel, Regarding Closure of TAC NO. MA1190 -

Response to the Request for Additional Information to Generic Letter 92-01, Revision 1, Supplement 1, " Reactor Vessel Structural Integrity," for the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant, dated July 6,1999.

Dear Sir:

This letter informs the NRC that the Authority requires an extension from September 1, 1999 until October 15,1999 to complete review of the Reactor Vessel Integrity Database (RVID) and forward comments to the NRC. This schedule change was discussed with the Acting NRC Project Manager on August 24,1999.

The Authority was informed (Reference) that the NRC has revised the information in the RVID and is releasing it as RVID Version 2. FitzPatrick's responses to Generic Letter (GL) 92-01 regarding Reactor Vessel Structural Integrity will be reflected in RVID Version 2.

In the Reference letter, the NRC noted the location where new RVID diskettes are posted on the world-wide-web and recommended that the Authority review this inforrnation and provide comments to the NRC no later than September 1,1999. The NRC stated that if comments were not received by this date, the data entered into the RVID would be assumed to be acceptable for FitzPatrick.

The Authority has reviewed the RVID and has noted several differences between the database and Authority design documentation. However, based on the scope of the differences and resource requirements, the Authority will require until October 15,1999 to confirm the identified differences, complete the review of the RVID, and forward comments to the NRC. The Authority requests that the NRC withhold releasing RVID Version 2, as it applies to FitzPatrick, until after the comments forwarded to the NRC no later than October 15,1999 are resolved.

There are no commitments made by the Authority in this letter. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. C. D. Faison.

I Very truly yo rs,

{
