NRC I&E BULLETIN NO. 83-03 CHECK VALVE FAILURES IN RAW WATER COOLING SYSTEMS OF DIESEL GENERATORS Gentlemen:
In accordance with the subject bulletin, the results of the initial valve integrity verification are being submitted.
The two emergency service water pump discharge check valves (ESW lA and 1B) were disassembled and inspected during October 1982.
ESW 1A had a threaded stud (integral w/ disc) that was badly corroded.
The nut associated with the stud was replaced.
The disc will be replaced on receipt of a replacement unit from Velan.
The valve was operable as found and was left in an operable condition.
The other pump discharge check (ESW 1B) and the discharge checks from the emergency diesel generator coolers (ESW 6A and B - inspected July 6, 1983) were fully satis-factory.
The ISI program has been changed in accordance with the bulletin.
The change submittal will be made by October 1, 1983.
