SUBJECT:
U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION - NRC INSPECTION NO. 030-12771/2023001 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Andrea Bright:
This letter refers to your August 9, 2024, correspondence, in response to our June 28, 2024, letter and Notice of Violation (Notice). In our letter, we requested, as part of your corrective actions, that you respond to the Notice by reviewing your inspection records for all of your radioactive permit holder locations to determine if other radioactive material permit holder locations require inspections to bring them into full compliance.
You reported that your audit confirmed that some inspections were missed in FY2022 and FY2023, those inspections have been completed, and that you are on-track to complete all FY2024 inspections by the end of FY2024. You also reported that to prevent recurrence you planned to 1) Have the Radiation Safety Officer take an active role in the radiation inspection program; 2) Conduct training for Health Physicists and Supervisors; Conduct proactive inspection tracking; and consider requesting a license amendment to enable the conduct of remote and periodic inspections.
These corrective and preventative actions will be reviewed during future inspections.
