NRC INSPECTION REPCRT NO. 030-00002/97001(DNMS)
Dear Mr. Basch:
This refers to the specialinspection conducted on November 18 through December 9,1997, at Case Westem Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether activities authorized by the license were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with Dr. David Sedwick of your staff.
The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the
conditions of your license. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procadures and representative records, interviews with personnel, independent measurements and olnervation of activities in progress.
During the special inspection, your conduct of licensed activities was Generally characterized by safety conscious response to contamination ever.ts at your waste facility, sound health physics practices, careful roet cause investigation, and prompt corrective actions. We are pleased to inform you that no violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's * Rules of Practices," a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
