APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Washington Public Power Supply System V.'0. Box 968 Richland, Washington 99352 Docket No. 50-397 License No. NPF-21 During an NRC inspection conducted on August 12-21, 1985, a violation of an NRC requirement was identified.
The violation involved posting of a radioactive material storage area.
In accordance with the "General Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1985) the violation is listed below:
A.
CFR 20.203(e)(1)
states that each area in which licensed material is stored in excess of 10 times the
CFR 20 Appendix C quantity shall be conspicuously posted
"CAUTION - RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL".
Contrary to the above, for an undetermined period prior to August 13, 1985, the area where radioactive waste shipping liners are filled and stored prior to shipment was not posted as required and no exceptions were applicable.
The licensee confirmed that greater than 10 times Appendix C quantities were present.
This is a Severity Level V Violation (Supplement IV).
In view of the immediate corrective actions taken during the inspection which were verified by the inspector prior to leaving the site, no response to this notice is required.
