SUBJECT:
VERIFICATION SURVEY RESULTS, SUPPLEMENT TO INSPECTION REPORT N0. 50-538/88-01, DOCKET N0. 50-538, LICENSE NO. R-127 As part of the process regarding termination of License No. R-127 for the Memphis State University (MSU) AGN-201 Research and Training Reactor, an initial closecut inspection and NRC verification radiological survey of the MSU facilities and equipment were conducted by NRC Region 11 personnel on June 23, 1988.
During the inspection, the need for clarification of data in your Termination Report and for additional radiological surveys by you was noted.
The appropriate data clarifications and results of radiological surveys were provided in letters from you to the NRC, dated July 14, 1988, and July 26, 1988.
The contamination survey data in the your Termination Report and addenda thereto, were reported to be within the limits established by Regulatory Guide 1.86.
On August 4,1988, supplemental radiological surveys of the facilities and equipment were conducted by an NRC Region II inspector.
Both gross alpha and gross beta-gama fixed contamination levels were detemined for selected facility and equipment surface areas.
NRC contamination survey dato indicated less than 52 disintegrations per minute per 100 square centimeters (dpm/100 cmt) alpha and less than 2,100 dpm/100 cmr beta-gama, respectively, for all facility and equipment surfaces surveyed.
Our review corroborated t-
'SU results presented in the Termination Report and the supplements provided ito.
Basea on these and previous NRC radiological surveys, the facilities and equipment contamination levels were less than the limits specified by l
