Eliason Vice President, Nuclear Generation 414 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55401 Dear Mr. Eliason-SUBJECT: ROUTINE RADIATION PROTECTION INSPECTION AT PRAIRIE ISLAND This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. T. J. Kozak of this office on November 17-25, 1992.
The inspection included a review of authorized activities for your Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Station.
At the cont.lusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations of activities in progress.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation of NRC requirements. However, as described in the enclosed inspect!on report, you identified this violation. Therefore, the violation will not be subject tu enforcement action because your efforts in identifying and correcting the violation meet the criteria specified in Section VII.B of the " General Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions," (Enforcement Policy, 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C).
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a) of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
