SUBJECT:

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY - NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT

NO. 05000184/2018401

Dear Dr. Newton:

From March 26-28, 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a security inspection at the National Bureau of Standards Reactor. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your facility.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to security and compliance with the Commissions rules and regulations, as well as compliance with the conditions of your license. The inspector reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel. Based on the results of this inspection, no security concerns or non-compliance with NRC requirements were identified. No response to this letter is required.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)).

ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). However, because of the security-related information contained in the inspection report, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of the inspection report will not be available for public inspection. If you have any questions concerning this inspection, please contact Michael Takacs at 301-415-2042, or by electronic mail at Michael.Takacs@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/

Anthony J. Mendiola, Chief Research and Test Reactors Oversight Branch Division of Licensing Projects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
