SUBJECT:

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY - NRC SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-184/2009-203

Dear Dr. Dimeo:

On October 7-8, 2009, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a security inspection at National Institute of Standards and Technology Center for Neutron Research. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to security and compliance with NRC rules and regulations, and compliance with the conditions of your license.

The inspectors reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel. Based on the results of this inspection, no safety concerns or non-compliances with NRC requirements were identified. No response to this letter is required.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 2.390 "Public Inspections, exemptions, and requests for Withholding," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (ADAMS). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). However, because of the security-related items contained in the enclosure, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of this letter=s enclosure will not be available for public inspection.

Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, please contact Patrick J. Isaac at 301-415-1019 or electronic mail at patrick.isaac@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
