SUBJECT:

ARMED FORCES RADIOBIOLOGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE - NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ANNOUNCED SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT NO. 05000170/2018401

Dear Captain Gilstad:

From June 5-7, 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a security inspection at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute reactor facility. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your facility.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to the common defense and security, and to confirm compliance with the Commissions rules and regulations, and compliance with the conditions of your license. The inspector reviewed your physical security plan, observed the physical security features at your facility, and interviewed personnel.

Based on the results of this inspection, no security concerns or non-compliance with NRC requirements were identified. No response to this letter is required.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390 of the NRC's Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's Agencywide Documents Access and Management System, accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. However, because of the security-related information contained in the inspection report, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of the inspection report will not be available for public inspection. If you have any questions concerning this inspection, please contact Michael Takacs at 301-415-2042 or by e-mail at Michael.Takacs@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA Elizabeth Reed for/
