On August-7-8, 1989, Mr. David J. Collins of this office conducted an inspection i
at the nuclear' reactor facility in the Washington Building of Worcester
~
Polytechnic ~ Institute of activities authorized by the above listed NRC license.

The inspection was an examination of your licensed activities as they relate to compliance with the Commission's regulations. The inspection consisted of observations by the inspe: tor, interviews with personnel, and a selective examination of' representative records.
The find;ngs of the inspection were discussed with yourself at the conclusion of the inspection.

l The-inspector observed the preparation, loading and dispatch of a shipment of
'
trradiated reactor fuel. ~The inspector verified measurements of radiation for
-
the packages, obcerved calculation of contarination levels on the package exteriors, verified the radiacion measurements made on the transport vehicle, and verified the~ operability of the communication devices.

Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were ider,tified.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice", Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the Public Document Room. No reply to this letter is required.
