This was an announced inspection of a non-destructive testing company authorized by the State of Iowa to use lridium-192 (lr-192) for industrial radiography at temporary job sites within Iowa jurisdictio The licensee conducted these activities at temporary job sites in NRC jurisdiction under the terms of a reciprocity request filed in January 2022 for calendar year 202 The scope of this inspection was limited to an evaluation of the licensee's activities at the USDA's waste treatment facilities in Ames, Iowa on 01/25/2022 with in-office review through 01/27/2022.
The licensee had one QSA Global model 880 Delta radiography exposure device (RED) on-sit The inspector toured the job site and interviewed the licensee's staff, including a Level 2 radiographer and a radiographer 's assistan The licensee's staff was knowledgeable of radiation protection principles as well as their operating and emergency procedures. The inspector observed the staff perform radiographic operations, equipment checks, cordon off and control a restricted area, use radiation detection instruments, and perform surveys. Areas were adequately posted and the RED was adequately secured. The inspector discussed response to abnormal conditions involving the RED as well as leak testing procedures. The inspector examined the equipment present on the job site and determined the RED was adequately labele Additionally, survey meters, direct reading dosimeters, and alarming ratemeters were functional and calibrate The inspector reviewed utilization logs and shipping paper Independent surveys were performed throughout the inspection using a RadEyeG (SN : 30650, calibration due :
