The following information was provided by the
Georgia Radioactive Materials Program (the Department) via email:
On January 14, 2026, the licensee's radiation safety officer (RSO) notified the Department of a leaking check source found during a routine check on January 12, 2026. The vial had a visible defect, so the physicist immediately collected a wipe sample and placed the vial back in its shielded container. The container was sealed with tape, and all potentially contaminated items were triple bagged, sealed, labeled, and placed in storage in the hot lab. Area surveys and wipes were performed in the location where the source was located and no contamination was found. The RSO is currently in the process of obtaining quotes from disposal companies and will inform the Department when it is disposed.
The Department will update with more information when obtained.
