Texas Department of State Health Services via phone and email:
On January 28, 2025, during an investigation, the licensee reported that, on one occasion, there was a spill involving americium-241 which required access to a room to be restricted for more than 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> at its facility. The licensee's radiation safety officer (RSO) stated the spill came from a small bucket located in an area where access was controlled for source security reasons. After the spill, the access was secured due to the americium spill. The RSO could not remember some of the information related to the event. The RSO agreed to submit a written report to the department within 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />. No individuals were contaminated and no other area was contaminated beyond the room where the event occurred. An update to this report will be provided once the additional information is received.
