SUBJECT:

Clarification to Summary of Analyses Related to ANO-1 Once-Through Steam Generator Tube Thermal Loads Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51

REFERENCE:

Entergy letter to NRC dated January 26, 2010, Summary of Analysis Related to ANO-1 Once-Through Steam Generator Tube Thermal Loads Due to Breaks in RCS Upper Hot Leg Large-Bore Piping (1CAN011004)

Dear Sir or Madam:

By the referenced submittal, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) provided a summary of actions that had been taken to address the once-through steam generator tube thermal loads due to breaks in the large-bore piping and steam generator tube integrity at Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1. Subsequent to this submittal, the NRC determined that a potion of the submittal needed to be clarified.

During a conference call on April 6, 2010, between representatives from the NRC and Entergy, it was agreed that the last full paragraph of the reference submittal needs to be revised. The revised paragraph is below. The change is underlined for ease of review.

The verification performed by AREVA is based on the TS 5.5.9 SG program which implements inspection requirements that ensure SG tube integrity is assessed on a routine basis and that degrading tubes are removed from service prior to exceeding the 40% TW limit. The program requires projected flaw growth to be determined to provide high confidence that a degraded tube will not exceed the calculated structural limit prior to the next scheduled inspection.
