Security Inspection Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6

Dear Sir or Madam:

By letter dated November 28, 2005 (OCNA1 10501), the NRC issued Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) a non-cited violation for deficiencies in the vehicle barrier system (VBS). On December 20, 2005, Entergy contacted NRC Region IV and requested an extension of the 30-day contest period. Mr. Mike Shannon verbally granted a two-week extension until January 10, 2006. Entergy has taken corrective actions to address the specific concerns identified by the inspector. Entergy is currently working with the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) on further establishing detailed guidance pertaining to the design basis requirements for the VBS. It is Entergy's understanding that NEI's input on this issue is planned to be documented via comments on the draft regulatory guide for the design basis threat rulemaking pursuant to I0CFR73.1. Therefore, future corrective actions, if necessary, will be deferred until the regulatory guide is in place and the rulemaking is complete.
