OF THE MAY 11, 2010, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2009 PALISADES END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
On May 11, 2010, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Room in South Haven, Michigan. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Entergy representativ es to discuss the NRC's assessment of the safety performance of Palisades Nuclear Plant for the period from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2009. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML101040711 and ML101300433, respectively.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC's Mission, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRC's assessment of Palisades performance in 2009, which was documented in the March 3, 2010, End-Of-Cycle assessment letter (ML100610274).
The licensee then provided a response to the NRC's assessment. The licensee presentation can be found in the ADAMS as ML101330508. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. Several members of the public asked questions that covered the emergency plan, ground water monitoring, spent fuel, reactor head and steam generator replacements, and license renewal. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached enclosure.
