OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JUNE 24, 2010, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY CONCERNING DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO THE DIABLO CANYON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION-AGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) held a telephone conference call on June 24, 2010, to obtain clarification on the staff's draft request for additional information (D-RAI) regarding the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant license renewal application (LRA).
By emails dated June 8, 2010, the staff sent D-RAIs to PG&E regarding aging management programs. PG&E reviewed the information contained therein, and requested a telephone conference call. The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the intent of the staff's D-RAIs. Enclosure 2 provides discussions on D-RAI for which the applicant requested clarification. No changes to other D-RAIs were necessary as a result of this telephone conference call. Formal RAIs will be issued by a separate letter.
Enclosure 1 provides a listing of the participants.
The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.

D-RAI 2.4-1 Section 2.4 of the LRA does not include the following fire barrier and other fire protection
components:
Table 2.4.-1, fire barrier seals Table 2.4-3, fire barrier coatings and wraps Table 2.4-7, fire barrier coatings Table 2.4-8, fire barrier coatings Table 2.4-9, fire barrier coatings Table 2.4-10, fire barrier seals and fire barrier coatings Table 2.4-11, trash racks and traveling screens The staff requests that the applicant verify whether the above fire barrier assemblies and fire protection components are within the scope of license renewal within the identified structure accordance with 10 CFR 54.4(a) and subject to an AMR in accordance with 10 CFR 54.21(a)(1). If they are excluded from the scope of license renewal and not subject to an AMR, the staff requests that the applicant provide justification for the exclusion.
Discussion: For the components of concern for Table 2.4-11, the applicant referred to the staff to LRA Table 2.4-10. The staff agreed that the components were listed within the scope of license renewal within LRA Table 2.4-10. The staff will revise this question as follows. The revised question will be sent as a formal RAI.
