Environmental Qualification ofElectrical Equipment R.E.GinnaNuclearPowerPlantDocketNo.50-244
DearMr.Crutchfield:
Rochester GasandElectricsubmitted environmental qualifi-cationinformation relativetoinstalled "TMIitems"byletterdatedJanuary30,1981.Recently, theNRCconsultants, FranklinResearchCenter,requested thatweresubmitthisinformation, aswellasprovidethestatusofseveralotherNUREG-0737 items.Thisinformation isenclosed.

Theauxiliary feed-watersystemisinitiated byaSafetyInjection signal, aswellaslowsteamgenerator waterlevel,lossof4Kvbusvoltage,andfeedwater pumpbreakers"open".Theselattertwosignalsareinitiated byinstrumentation intheturbinebuilding, whichisa"mildenvironment" undertransient conditions forwhichthisinstrumentation isinstalled.
Theinstrumentation generating aSafetyInjection signal, aswellassteamgenerator level, wasdiscussed inRGSE'sprevioussubmittals, andnoadditional information isre-quired.RGSEhaspreviously committed toreplacethosetransmitters locatedinaharshenvironment (seeRG&E'sOctober31,1980andSeptember 4,1981lettersforthelatestcommitment statusforthisequipment).

Thesetransmitters arestillundergoing finalqualification testing.Itshouldbenotedthat,asstatedinRG&E'sOctober31,1980submittal, theStandbyAuxiliary Feedwater System, locatedinamildenvironment, issufficient toprovideallrequiredauxiliary feedwater systemsafetyfunctions.
Environmental qualification ofauxilaryfeedwater systemcomponents isdesirable, butnotnecessary.
