STATUS OF RECOMMENDATIONS: AUDIT OF THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSIONS SAFETY INSPECTIONS OF CLASS II RESEARCH AND TEST REACTORS (OIG-24-A-07)
This memorandum provides the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) with the status of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs actions to address the seven recommendations in OI-24-A-07, Audit of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Safety Inspections of Class II Research and Test Reactors, dated April 11, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML24102A254).
The NRC staff responded to the recommendations in OIG-24-A-07 in a memorandum dated May 14, 2024 (ML24114A273). That response identified agency actions to further improve the NRCs oversight of research and test reactors, and their planned implementation dates, based on OIGs recommendations. In a memorandum dated May 30, 2024 (ML24151A539), OIG determined that the recommendations are resolved by the staffs response. The recommendations were considered open by OIG pending the completion of the identified actions. The May 30, 2024, memorandum requested an update on the status of the implementation of each of the recommendations by the end of January 2025. The staff provided an update on January 30, 2025 (ML25016A332).
The staff is providing another update in the enclosure. Based on the status of current actions and additional agency-wide initiatives, the NRC staff does not plan to provide any further updates.
