NUSCALE POWER, LLC - U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION FEEDBACK REGARDING NUSCALE/CARBON FREE POWER PROJECT WHITE PAPER: VOLCANIC HAZARDS ANALYSIS APPROACH METHODOLOGY (EPID L-2022-LRO-0053)
Dear Mr. Volkoff:
By letter dated August 12, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22214A172), NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale), on behalf of Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), LLC, submitted a white paper, entitled, Volcanic Hazards Analysis Approach Methodology, for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review and feedback. The white paper describes a proposed methodology that CFPP plans to implement to perform volcanic hazards assessment to prepare relevant sections of its expected combined license application.
NuScale/CFPP requested the NRC staff to perform a review of the white paper and provide written feedback. The NRC staff completed its review of the white paper and has found no major deficiencies for this stage of the pre-application process. The enclosure to this letter provides the NRC staffs observations for NuScale/CFPP consideration.
