SUMMARY

OF THE JULY 27, 2022, OBSERVATION PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS NUSCALE POWER, LLCS APPROACH FOR TREATMENT OF DC POWER The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held an observation public meeting on July 27, 2022, to discuss NuScale Power, LLCs (NuScales) approach for treatment of DC Power in their safety analysis. This was a follow-up meeting to the May 4, 2022, public meeting, where NuScale provided a high-level overview of its approach and solicited preliminary feedback to inform a topical report submittal on the proposed methodology. In this meeting, NuScale responded to the staffs preliminary feedback documented in the proprietary portion of the May 4, 2022, meeting summary, which can be found in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22152A236.

The public meeting notice dated July 27, 2022, was posted on the NRC public website, and can be found under ML22208A117. Information related to NuScale presentation can be found under ML22199A202 (Nonproprietary) and ML22199A207 (Proprietary). The enclosure provides a list of the meeting participants.

During the open portion of the meeting, NuScale provided a summary of the presentation and discussion topics that would be held during the closed portion of the meeting. NuScale then provided a short summary about the safety improvement of the US460 Emergency Core Cooling System design change, described the interactions with the NRC on the topic of DC power in Chapter 15 to date, and finally, provided a brief statement on how NuScale determines the most appropriate way to satisfy the Chapter 15 requirements consistent with the Commissions policy on risk-informed regulation.

History of the treatment of DC power in Chapter 15 Reviewing prior NRC feedback NuScales revised approach Treatment of DC power availability in Chapter 15 analysis is an opportunity to apply the inadvertent actuation block precedent, Staff Requirements Memorandum SECY 0036, Application of the Single Failure Criterion to NuScale Power LLC's Inadvertent Actuation Block Valves The NRC staff provided feedback throughout the presentation. NuScale plans to submit their report on the treatment of DC power in Chapter 15 later in the year.
