ISSUANCE OF NUREG-1766, SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT RELATED TO THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, AND SURRY POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Christian:

Enclosed is the NRC staffs NUREG-1766, Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2, and Surry Power Station, Units 1 and 2.

NUREG-1766 supplements the staffs safety evaluation report (SER), which was issued on November 5, 2002. Specifically, Chapter 5 of NUREG-1766 includes the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) recommendations to the Commission regarding Dominions applications to renew the operating licenses of North Anna, Units 1 and 2, and Surry, Units 1 and 2, for an additional 20 years. In addition, Appendix D of NUREG-1766 includes a list of Dominions commitments to fulfill prior to expiration of the current operating license terms of each unit.
