NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.05-158 November 18, 2005 NRC ADVISORY SUBCOMMITTEE ON POWER UPRATES TO MEET NOV. 29-30 IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND A subcommittee of the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards will hold a public meeting Nov. 29-30 in Rockville, Md., to review the application Entergy filed to increase power output by approximately 20 percent at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant. The subcommittee will hear from Entergy Nuclear representatives, NRC staff members and interested members of the public.
The subcommittee will then formulate proposed positions or actions for deliberation by the full committee. The Committee is an advisory board to the five-member Commission and independent from the NRC staff.
Entergy submitted a request in September 2003 to increase, or "uprate," the maximum authorized power level at the Vermont Yankee facility from 1,593 megawatts thermal to 1,912 megawatts thermal. This would represent an increase of approximately 100 megawatts electric.
The meeting, portions of which may be closed to discuss proprietary information, will begin at 8:30 a.m. both days and will run until the conclusion of business. The meeting will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agencys Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike. A teleconference line will be available.
