National Aeronautics and Space Administration John H. Glenn Research Center Lewis Field Plum Brook Station Sandusky, OH 44870 June 30, 2010 Reply to Attn of: QD U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, D.C. 20555

Subject:

Notice of Change of Decommissioning Schedule for the NASA Plum Brook Reactor Facility, License No. TR-3, Docket No. 50-30 and License No. R-93, Docket No.

50-185 In accordance with section 3.A.2 of NRC Licenses TR-3 and R-93, National Aeronautics and Space Administration is providing the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission with notification of a change in the planned decommissioning schedule that will extend the completion date beyond December 31, 2010.

The current base-line schedule for the project still reflects that decontamination and remediation of the facility will be completed by December 31, 2010. This includes proper disposal of all radioactive waste generated by the decontamination and remediation activities. However, when all remediation work is completed, significant effort remains in completing the surveys necessary to demonstrate that we have met the License Termination Criteria specified in our NRC approved Final Status Survey Plan.

We have been submitting the individual Final Status Survey Reports to the NRC Staff for review and evaluation as the surveys are completed and documented for selected survey areas. We expect to complete the last Final Status Surveys and to submit the final sections of the Final Status Survey Report by the end of August 2011. The final report submittal will be accompanied with our formal request for License Termination. Any future changes to the projected schedule will be communicated as they develop.

Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at NASA Plum Brook Station, 6100 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, or by telephone at (419) 621-3277.

Sincerely, Keith M. Peecook NASA Decommissioning Program Manager N ~c
