Subject:

Detroit Edison's 90-day Response to March 12, 2012 Information Request Regarding Flooding Evaluations and Walkdowns On March 12, 2012, the NRC issued Reference 2 to all power reactor licensees and holders of construction permits in active or deferred status. Enclosures 2 and 4 of the Reference 2 letter contain specific Requested Actions, Requested Information and Required Responses associated with Recommendations 2.1 and 2.3 for Flooding Evaluations and Walkdowns. This letter provides Detroit Edison's 90-day response for Fermi 2.

USNRC NRC-12-0036 Page 2 Recommendation 2.1: Flooding The response date for the Fermi 2 flood hazard evaluation was identified in Reference 3 as March 12, 2013 which corresponds to one year from the date of Reference 2. Detroit Edison plans to comply with the requested response date.

Detroit Edison plans to meet the requested dates for the other required responses in of Reference 2. Specifically, an approach for developing an Integrated Assessment for Fermi 2 will be submitted 60 days after the NRC endorses the Integrated Assessment Guidance. In addition, an Integrated Assessment report for Fermi 2, if necessary, will be submitted 2 years after the flood evaluation is completed.

Recommendation 2.3: Flooding For flooding recommendation 2.3 (walkdowns), Enclosure 4 of Reference 2 states that each licensee is to confirm that it will use the NRC-endorsed flooding walkdown procedure or provide a description of the process it will use.

Detroit Edison confirms that it will use the flooding walkdown procedure endorsed by the NRC in Reference 4 as the basis for the flooding walkdowns at Fermi 2.

Detroit Edison plans to comply with the response timeline in Enclosure 4 of Reference

2. Specifically, Detroit Edison will submit a report documenting the results of its flooding design basis walkdowns at Fermi 2 on or before November 27, 2012 which corresponds to 180 days after NRC endorsement of the generic guidance.

This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
