NON EMERGENCY "At approximately 0930 on January 14, 2013 a dead short nose sturgeon was reported being removed from the Salem Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generatina Station. The sturgeon was determined to be a short nose sturgeon (Acipenser Brevirostrum), which is an "endangered" species. Short nose sturgeons are federally listed as "endangered" species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a. A report was made to the National Marine Fisheries Service at 1207 by Environmental Licensing."

The licensee will be notifying the NRC Resident Inspector, the local township, and State of NJ. Notified R1DO (e-mail).
