Reference:

1. Southern Nuclear Operating Company letter to the NRC, Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant On-Shift Staffing Analysis, dated January 18, 2013 (NL-13-0065)

Ladies and Gentlemen:

By letter dated January 18, 2013, Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted Reference 1 to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). After submitting, it was discovered that Reference 1 contained inaccurate information.

As part of the on-shift staffing analysis summary, Reference 1 stated that compensatory measures had been put in place to address a conflict with performance of NRC and other site event notifications by the Shift Manager. As discussed in a phone conversation on January 24, 2013, between Mr. Ken McElroy of SNC and Mr. Robert E. Martin of the NRC, SNC determined that the compensatory measures were not in place until January 22, 2013.

A review of the on-shift staff between the dates required for compensatory measures to be in place (January 19, 2013) and when compensatory measures were actually put in place (January 22, 2013) show that Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant had adequate staffing to meet the intent of the compensatory action with the exception of 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
total.

This letter contains no NRC commitments. If you have any questions, please contact Ken McElroy at (205) 992-7369.

Respectfully submitted, Cli. fL-C. R. Pierce Regulatory Affairs Director CRP/CLNllac
