NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-244/98-08

Dear Dr. Mecredy:

This letter transmits the results of safety inspections conducted by NRC inspectors at the

Ginna Nuclear Power Plant from June 22 through July 26, 1998. At the conclusion of the

inspection, the findings were discussed with Mr. J. Widay and others of your staff.

During the five week period covered by this inspection period, we noted safe and sustained

stable plant operation.

We also noted the corrective action program was effectively used

to identify, evaluate,

and resolve radiological deficiencies, and that you made good

enhancements

to the program regarding operability determinations and tracking corrective

actions.

We concluded that your efforts to reduce radiation exposure have been

successful

as evidenced by the steadily declining annual total and three-year rolling

average radiation exposures.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter

and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
