Dear Sirs,
I am a veteran of the United States Navy submarine service. Recently I was granted a service-connected disability for cancer and exposure to ionizing radiation by the Veterans Board of Appeals. I believe I can speak with some authority as to the folly of transporting nuclear waste by rail car and storage in Andrews, Texas. Such a proposal is dangerous and reckless to an extreme, and the consequences of a rail accident to great to allow approval of NRC-2016-0231. Any physical contact with spent fuel or close proximity to it will result in death. Any release of the spent fuel into our environment will result in Texas becoming inhabitable for a period of time greater than all recorded human history.
Approval of NRC-2016-0231 would be a willful and wanton disregard for the healthy, safety and welfare of the people of the United States. It should be denied.
