SUBJECT:
MEETING
SUMMARY
A meeting was held with Georgia Power Company on November 1,1979 at the Visitor's Center, Hatch Nuclear Plant (HNP), Baxley, Georgia.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed expansion of the spent fuel storage capacity at Hatch 1 and 2.
The meeting was pre-ceded by a guided tour of the spent fuel pool floor, elevation 228' and the control room area. A list of persons attending the meeting is enclosed.
The technical discussion dealt primarily with the licensee's preliminary response to structural engineering questions forwarded by NRC letter dated September 28, 1979. As a result of this discussion, the licensee agreed to provide additional information in response to the NRC questions. Members from Georgians Against Nuclear Energy (GANE) were present during the tour of the spent fuel pool area and the technical meeting.
GANE has petitioned the NRC to intervene in the licensing of increased spent fuel storage capacity at HNP.
The general consensus at the conclusion of the meeting was that licensing for the proposed spent fuel pool modification was proceeding on schedule.
