The Nuclear Regulatory Conmission staff has withdrawn Regulatory Guide 5.35, " Calorimetric Assay of Plutonium." This guide was issued in June 1974 to describe procedures acceptable to the NRC staff for operating and calibrating heat flow calorimeters in measuring the power associated with plutonium decay in nondestructive determinations of the quantity of plutonium in certain types of materials. The guide is being with-drawn as the result of our publication of a topical report that includes the infomation contained in the guide along with considerable addi-tional information useful to licensees.
This report provides more useful guidance than Regulatory Guide 5.35 for tailoring a program of caloriretric assay of ' plutonium to the needs of a specific installation.
The report is identified as NUREG-0228, " Calorimetric Assay for Plutonium." Copies may be purchased at current rates from the National Technical Infomation Service, Springfield, Virginia 22161.
