The TMI Nuclear Station consists of two unIYs~~~'Onit 2 sustained the accident on March 28, 1979 and the following information is applicable to it. TMI-2 is owned by Metropolitan Edison Company, Jersey Central Power and Light Company, and Pennsylvania Electric Company on a 50/25/25 percent basis, respectively. Metropolitan Edison Company has complete responsibility for the engineering, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the unit. Burns & Roe, Inc., was the architect-engineer and United Engineers & Constructors the construction manager. Gilbert Associates, Inc., was retained as architect-engineer for the design of the cooling towers and as consultant on site-related engineering. Babcock & Wilcox supplied the nuclear steam and the first fuel loading, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation the turbine-generator. The NRC regulations applicable to the design and construction of TMI-2 are those contained in Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations Part 50 " Domestic Licensing of Production and UF~rization Facilities" which is available in public libraries. Numerous changes were required during NRC staff review and construction of TMI-2 These changes are listed in Section 1.6 and are discussed in detail in the body of the staff's Safety Evaluation Report Related to Operation of Three hile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 2 (NUREG-0107, September 1976).
